Our History

In central New York, Route 12 is the road of choice for snowmobilers, ATV riders, boaters, and motorcyclists heading north into the Adirondack Mountains. And right near the junction of interstate I-90 and Route 12 is Sports Unlimited, a Polaris® and Yamaha dealership with a staff focused on delivering performance and outstanding customer service.

Starting out in 1992, Owners Terry and Rick Buck, already fueled with a passion for powersports, jumped at the chance to open up a new Polaris® dealership in the Utica, NY area. They started out in a leased space on Oriskany St in Utica. Not long after, they added Mastercraft, Chaparral, and Godfrey Marine boats and it wouldn't be long before they realized that a new space would be needed.

President and Co-Owner Rick Buck oversaw construction of the new dealership buildings in 2002-2003, and now Sports Unlimited is an appealing, must-stop jumping-off point for recreational riders headed north. The dealership has a beautiful showroom, spacious parking lot, and large service and parts areas.

Rick and his business partner Terry, the dealership Vice President, are long-time performance lovers, and they love to help customers find additional power and premium ride quality to optimize their Polaris® and Yamaha experiences. "We were into the performance clutching for sleds way before we became a dealer, and now we have Joe DiSpirito, formerly of Cycle Dyne Performance, a performance expert and master engine builder on board" said Rick. "Joe has a lot of dyno experience and we have a first-class engine dyno. He is absolutely phenomenal at finding horsepower."

The spectacular Adirondack Park, home of Old Forge, NY is just minutes north of the dealership, and the ATV and deep-snow snowmobiling Mecca of Tug Hill is about 30 minutes away. That's why for so many eastern riders, the New York experience begins at Sports Unlimited in Utica.
